What We Do

External wall insulation finished with Ceresit CT74 silicone render.

We currently focus on one main type of exterior work: insulating houses with Ceresit CT 315 graphite EPS boards and finishing the facade with a silicone render system. The aim is a clean, durable and weather-resistant finish, built from proper preparation rather than shortcuts.

Substrate Preparation

The first stage is making the wall ready for the system.

The quality of the finished render depends on what happens before the insulation boards go on. We check the existing wall and prepare it according to the condition of the surface.

Clean brickwork

Unpainted, clean brick wall

If the wall is clean, stable and not painted, the surface is primed first. This helps prepare the brickwork before the EPS insulation boards are bonded to the wall.

Pebbledash or old render

Existing finish removed first

If the wall has pebbledash or another render finish, it is removed back to a suitable base. The wall is then cleaned, repaired where needed and prepared for the insulation adhesive.

Work Sequence

Layer by layer, the facade is built as a complete system.

The process below shows the typical order of work for EPS external wall insulation finished with silicone render. The exact specification can depend on the property, access, substrate condition and material requirements.

  1. Starter tracks

Starter tracks are fixed level around the building to set the base line for the insulation boards.

  2. Bond EPS insulation boards

EPS boards are bonded to the prepared wall with suitable adhesive, keeping lines tight and the surface controlled.

  3. Mechanical fixings

The insulation is fixed with approved insulation anchors after bonding, adding mechanical support to the system.

  4. Beads and drip details

Corner beads, stop beads and drip beads are installed to protect edges, form clean lines and manage water run-off.

  5. Basecoat, mesh and second coat

A basecoat adhesive is applied, reinforcement mesh is embedded, then another coat is applied to create the reinforced layer.

  6. Primer

Once the reinforced layer is ready, the facade is coated with primer before the final render is applied.

  7. Ceresit CT74 silicone render

The final silicone render is applied evenly and textured to create the finished facade surface.

System Materials

The insulation layer and the final render work together.

The graphite EPS board improves the thermal performance of the wall, while the silicone render creates the finished external surface. Presenting both products together helps clients understand what is inside the system and what they see on the outside.

Insulation Material

We use Ceresit CT 315 Facade Polystyrene EPS Graphite.

The insulation board is the thermal layer of the system. It is fixed to the outside of the house before the reinforced basecoat, mesh, primer and final silicone render are applied.

Better heat retention External insulation helps reduce heat loss through the walls, so the home can hold warmth more effectively.
Improved comfort Warmer wall surfaces can help reduce cold spots and make rooms feel more comfortable in everyday use.
Lower energy demand A well-insulated wall system can help reduce heating demand, depending on the property and how it is used.
Protected exterior finish The insulation is completed with reinforced layers and render, giving the house a renewed facade surface.

Final Render Product

Ceresit CT74 Silicone Self-Clean render.

Ceresit CT74 is a decorative thin-layer silicone render used for exterior facade finishes, including Ceresit ETICS systems with EPS insulation boards. It is designed for a stone-like textured finish and is available in different grain sizes.

Hydrophobic surface Designed to repel water and help the facade resist dirt build-up in normal exterior conditions.
Vapour permeable Low water absorption with high vapour permeability helps the external wall system perform properly.
Durable finish Elastic, impact resistant and suitable for external facade surfaces exposed to everyday weather.
Clean appearance Creates the visible silicone render finish that gives the property its final exterior look.
